Fungi Anthology

I recently ordered an anthology that I am really looking forward to and want to share with you.  Let me tell you about Fungi.
First things first, look at this cover art:

Gorgeous, right?  The cover art alone sells this book for me.  I love how it evokes something eerie and inhuman while it is also graceful and oddly appealing.  If something like this creature showed up sitting on one of your deck chairs one summer evening, would you reach for the weed killer or see if it wanted a glass of sun tea?  If you are a mycologist I guess you would probably try and put it in a jar or something but hey, whatever floats your boat.

Fungi is an anthology themed around, surprise, fungi.  Who knew, right?  From the official website’s description:

Fungi is an eclectic anthology with stories that run the gamut from horror to dark fantasy. A mushroom submarine, anthropomorphic cats, hallucinogenic fungi, mushroom people, private investigators, and mercenaries make for a very different kind of anthology.

I am looking forward to seeing each author’s take on the theme and want to see how on earth you make a story featuring fungi.  The press website is full of neat tidbits and facts about fungi and related things and look at the cover art!  This would be a good Christmas present for the avid reader who has everything, anyone who enjoys the odd or the eldritch, or that weird guy you got in the office Secret Santa who does not stop talking about Omphalotus nidiformis.  We get it, Kevin, it glow in the dark!  Yeesh.

Anyways, cool looking anthology, I think you should check it out.  Ta-da!

In the Midst of NaNoWriMo

Welp, it is the 12th day of NaNoWriMo!  If you’ve been hitting the daily word goal of 1,667 words then your total count should be around 20k.
I have… considerably less than that.  But I’m catching up, damn it!

I also handed out a Box of Encouragement, so that helps bolster my will to write as well.  I want that stuff back real bad!

Despite my current deficit, I have not yet reached the “insurmountable task” feeling that usually comes when I attempt NaNoWriMo.  I’ve got the idea, the gumption, the ability to stretch 200 words into 1000, and an extra writing day this week thanks to Veteran’s Day.  I also have to make time to read and revise a short story my friend wrote and passed to me!  That’s fun stuff right there.  There is nothing more satisfying than coming to this blog and watching the little NaNoWriMo widget on the side change from red to yellow and finally (rarely) to green.  Hooray for arbitrary value systems that provide encouragement!

AND for the first time I am ahead on my podcast reviews over at ViddyViddy!  That’s got to count for something, right?

yeeessssss I just hit ten thousand words

Back to it!
